Meet The Team
The research is being led by researchers from Bond University and University of Newcastle in collaboration with Western Sydney Diabetes, University of Queensland, University of Wollongong and Central Queensland University.

Bond University
Professor Nick Zwar
Professor Nick Zwar is an experienced general practitioner and primary health care teacher and researcher. He is currently the Executive Dean for the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University. He has a national and international reputation in health services research on prevention and management of chronic illness, with a focus on respiratory and cardiovascular diseases.

Professor Zwar leads the research team and the Expert Advisory Group meetings, and will liaise with coinvestigators, partners and clinic staff involved. He will oversee the data analysis, interpretation and dissemination of the findings, and provide clinical expertise in general practice diabetes management and knowledge of current models of care to inform the intervention.

University of Wollongong
Professor Elizabeth Halcomb
Professor Halcomb is an experienced leader and collaborator on primary care research, including trials of complex interventions seeking to improve the prevention and management of chronic conditions. She has generated new knowledge in the field of primary care nursing research, with a particular emphasis on workforce, roles and chronic conditions. In 2020, Professor Halcomb was internationally named in the 100 Outstanding Women Nursing and Midwifery Leaders.

University of Queensland
Professor Katharine Wallis
Professor Wallis is Mayne Professor of General Practice and Head of the General Practice Clinical Unit at the University of Queensland Medical School. She is also the Director of UQGP Research, a practice-based research network. Professor Wallis has also held multiple international appointments, led numerous research projects, and contributed new knowledge in the field of safer prescribing in general practice.

University of Sydney
Professor Glen Maberly
Professor Maberly is Professor Emeritus at Emory University, USA and Adjunct Professor at Western Sydney University. Professor Maberly has undertaken translational research through novel collaborative interventions which have been delivered at a national scale. He has rolled out programs nationally with support from the United Nations and its key agencies and reported at high level UN meetings. Professor Maberly also leads WSD, a collaboration from WSLHD, WSPHN, private industry, and NSW government centred on prevention and integrated care for diabetes.

University of Newcastle
Dr Breanne Hobden
Dr Bree Hobden has research expertise and extensive experience in mental health, health care settings, project management, and liaising with key stakeholders. Her research centres on mental health in primary and tertiary care settings, as well as improving patient care experiences.
Dr Hobden is responsible for the day-to-day management of this study, including recruitment of sites, overseeing the research assistant, monitoring data collection, overseeing data cleaning, coordinating analyses, interpretation and write-up of the findings.

University of Newcastle
Dr Kristy Fakes
Dr Fakes (nee Forshaw) is a Research Associate experienced in health behaviour research. Her research focuses on improving patient preparation for medical interventions, quality of care, and psychosocial outcomes for people with chronic conditions, including heart conditions.

Dr Fakes assists with the management of this study, including analysis and interpretation of findings. She will also contribute knowledge and understanding of patient experience as a consumer of wearable products to manage her type 1 diabetes.

Caremonitor
Dr Kean-Seng Lim
Dr Kean-Seng Lim is a General Practitioner (GP) and GP Principal in a multidisciplinary practice in Western Sydney. He is the Immediate Past President of AMA (NSW), immediate past Deputy Chair of AMA Council of General Practice, and a Wentwest Clinical Council member. Dr Lim will provide subject matter expertise as a user of CareMonitor in a General Practice setting.

Central Queensland University
Professor Christopher Doran
Professor Doran is a Professor of Health Economics at Central Queensland University and is currently leading the research cluster for resilience and wellbeing (CReW). His research has contributed to the field of health economics and strengthened the evidence base for effective policy action. Professor Doran's research has been acknowledged by commissioned research from multilateral, government and non-government organisations.

Professor Doran will oversee and advise on all aspects of the economic evaluation to assess cost-effectiveness of the study.

Hunter Medical Research Institute
Dr Christopher Oldmeadow
Dr Christopher Oldmeadow is the Associate Director of the Data Sciences Unit at the Hunter Medical Research Institute. He is an experienced biomedical statistician in clinical trials, and regularly consults on and oversees analysis for projects from various fields of research.
Dr Oldmeadow is responsible for overseeing and advising on all statistical components relating to the study, including sample size, effect size, randomisation and analysis of primary and secondary outcomes.

Western Sydney Diabetes
Mr Gideon Meyerowitz-Katz
Mr Meyerowitz-Katz is an early-career researcher at Western Sydney Diabetes on diabetes epidemiology. He is currently leading a small team of researchers for the local health district looking into diabetes and chronic health, and has also published extensively during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mr Meyerowitz-Katz was involved in the development of CareMonitor: Diabetes at every stage.
Mr Meyerowitz-Katz is responsible for the managing the Western Sydney Diabetes collaboration for this research. This will include assisting with the study, implementing intervention components and contributing to interpretation and write up of the findings.

Bond University
Associate Professor Stijn Soenen
A/Prof Stijn Soenen has established an international reputation in the field of nutritional physiology. His research interests include type 2 diabetes, malnutrition, over- and undernutrition, and sleep health. His research has been awarded on several occasions, and his complex and technically demanding clinical studies, performed in internationally recognised research environments, have been published in leading journals in his field.
A/Prof Stijn Soenen is responsible for the day-to-day management of this study, including recruitment of sites, monitoring data collection, coordinating analyses, interpretation of findings, and write-up of outcomes.

Dr Lisa Olsen
Dr Lisa Olsen is a general practitioner and an early career researcher at Bond University. Dr Olsen joined the project during her academic post term as part of her training towards attaining her Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).

Ms Hannah Wetzler
Ms Hannah Wetzler is an experienced research assistant, working in the College of Medicine and Public Health, at the University of Newcastle. She is experienced in data reporting, academic writing, data collection and management. Her research areas include health behaviour, chronic diseases, women’s health and Australian social trends.
Ms Wetzler assists with the day-to-day management of the WEAR-IT Study.
