Empowering Health Through Wearable Technology

The Wearables Integrated Technology (Wear-IT) study aims to improve the health outcomes of patients with type 2 diabetes.

About The
Wear-IT Study

Nearly 5% of the Australian population are living with type 2 diabetes. Managing diabetes requires a person to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including diet and exercise. Technology can offer individuals support to manage their diabetes and improve their health outcomes.

The Wearables Integrated Technology (WEAR-IT) study aims to improve the health outcomes of patients with type 2 diabetes. The WEAR-IT project seeks to do this through testing through using wearable devices (e.g., physical activity monitor) within a diabetes self-care plan.

This study will have two groups. One group will receive the WEAR-IT program and one group will receive their usual care. Neither patients’ nor GPs will be able to select which group they are in, as this will be done at random. Through the contribution of both groups in this study, the research team can test whether the WEAR-IT program improves patient outcomes. If the program is successful, we can use this information to advocate for improved care for all patients with type 2 diabetes.
